Anna's Year Reflection

My Year in Grade 5

My Year in Grade 5....

During the year I have loved Grade 5 because it was very welcoming and fun. I think that getting used to being in Grade 5 is very important for middle school because you have to get used to moving from class to class in a short time. Also, practicing transitions is important for middle school because there are different classes for each subject.

Parent Questions:

1. Which one was your favorite subject in Grade 5? Why?
Answer: My favorite subject in Grade 5 is writing because you get to teach or persuade someone in your own words.

2. Give me 2 examples of initiatives that you had to do to improve your work.
Answer: One thing I had to do to make my work better is to focus, also another thing I had to do to make my work better is to get feedback from Mrs. Kasal.

3. What do you consider as areas for improvement?
Answer: One thing I consider as an area for improvement is math because I have to learn to focus more.

2 Pieces of Evidence

1. 'One math concept that you learned that you considered the most difficult.'
Answer:  I considered the hardest was multyplying and dividing fractions.
2. 'A piece of English writing that you did and that you consider as being your best.'
Answer:
What I consider as my best writing piece is the fantasy one because I worked the hardest on it.

Reading

Growth: In the beginning of the year, I wasn't very good at writing about what I read. Since the beginning of the year, I have been trying to write at least 3 long writes per book.

Next Steps: Next, I want to work on understanding what I read. I think this will help in middle school because if you don't understand what you read then you wont be able to keep up with other people and read higher level books.

Evidence:          ←Picture of my long write.

Writing

Growth: In the beginning of the year, I started to try to make my paragraphs longer. Now, I succeeded to make my paragraphs long and about the same size. I worked on adding more description in my writing. I think that adding more description in my writing will help people understand it more.

Next Steps: Next, I want to work on revising and editing my writing piece. I want to try to work on taking more time to focus and edit my writing to make it the best it can be.

Evidence:

Math

Growth: In Math, I grew by learning how to draw different shapes including kites, triangles, and rectangles.

Next Step: Next, I want to work more on multiplying and dividing fractions. I think that will help in middle school because what we will do in math class is add on to subjects we already know to make them harder and more advanced.

Evidence:

Science

Growth: In Science, I grew by learning about decomposers and what they do. We also learned how energy moves the sun to the scavengers.

Next Steps: Next, I want to look deeper in decomposers and see how they form and exactly what they do to stay alive. I think this will matter in middle school because it will help with understanding the food chain more.

Evidence:

Social Studies:

Growth: In Social Studies, I grew by learning about the conquistadors and about the Aztecs and the Europeans and how they fought. Also, we learned about how the Europeans beat the Aztecs.

Next Steps: Next, I want to learn about other tribes that lived at that time and what they acted like when they heard that another tribe was being attacked. I think this will matter in middle school because I think we will look deeper into these types of subjects.

Evidence:

Citizenship-Core Values

Growth: I grew by learning to be more responsible because next year when will be in middle school we have to get used to being responsible.

Next Steps: Next, I want to work on being compassionate because I want to help people. I think helping people will matter in middle school because it will create a good reputation for yourself and others. Also, you would be setting examples for younger grades.

Evidence: When someone was being mean to a friend, I told them to stop and say sorry.
Most Challenging
The most challenging thing this year was taking F and P's because we could never figure out exactly what level I am.

Most Enjoyable

What I enjoyed most during the year is writing my informational writing. I liked writing it because I was passionate about the topic I chose, which was space robots.

Most Proud Of

What I was most proud of during the year is when I helped someone get over something they were upset about. Also, I liked it when I helped someone stop crying because another person made fun of them.

Most Growth

What I think I grew most in was writing because there is a difference between my essays or stories from last year or the beginning of the year.
